Learning Update
5th Grade Gifted Math
The Unit 1 test and grades were returned to students last week.
Unit 2 covers decimals to the millionth place,  the positive and negative powers of ten, multiplication and division of decimals.

4th Grade Math
We are finishing up the final stages of Polyhedraville, our town constructed entirely from polyhedrons.  The students have been divided into 3 teams:  residential, commercial, and downtown.

3rd Grade Math
During Unit 2 we  worked on using mental addition by playing Roll to 100; practiced extended addition and subtraction facts (such as 140 - 90) by playing Name That Number Extended Facts Version; wrote and solved missing addend number stories; and practiced 4 and 3 digit subtraction using the trade-first method.

5th Grade Reading
After having read two Junior Great Book stories, we are now reading Artemis Fowl The Time Paradox, which will draw us into the fantasy genre.  We will be learning literary elements, including dynamic characters, point of view, and suspense.

4th Grade Reading
This group just started The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, which is the 2nd book in the Chronicles of Narnia series.  These students will keep a Reading Response Journal including a vocabulary section.  We will start off with a discussion of protagonists versus antagonists.

3rd Grade Reading
We have been reading Shiloh by Phyllis Naylor Reynolds.  We are learning to describe characters by their traits and find evidence in the story to support our conclusions.  We also learned about Making Connections while we read, such as Text to Self, Text to World, Text to Media, and Text to Text.
